It occurred to me that after the discussion about stereo wiring etc. that I didn't ask about input devices.
What do you guys use for inputs? i.e cd's, ipods, mp3's on cd's, radio?

AM Push Button radio with the add on 8-Track option
Basiclly right now I'm using my Ipod for my listening plessure, since Radio station bored the living HELL out of me.. Specially in the morning when the DJs (or whatever they are called these days) Start talking about their Lives and what they did the night before and crap and general banter (right word?) that goes on.. also my headunit hasn't seen a CD (Audio or MP3 alike) since i got my Ipod And i'm just waiting for all the stuff to finally show up for the siruis radio plug and play setups, so i can use on of there P&P radios to go from Home to car to work and back, and in the car beable to control it through the Head unit

CD player with a FM transmitter for my mp3 player. I'd like to replace the deck with something that I can simply plug a USB II cable into at some point in
the future.

It doesn't surprise me that mp3 is the preferred option though an 8 track deck would look awesome in place of my cup holder.
So what bit rate do you use for your mp3's. Lossless is 640, iTunes store is 128. If you are listening to mp3's recorded at 128 one wonders whether it makes any difference where the wiring is re-routed. Mind you the poor sound quality will sound awesome.

192kbps or something like that is what i rip my CD's at.. what's the point of going over what they say is `cd quality' since it's not gonna get
any better being copied off of a normal CD, but Some Cd's i've riped at 224, but it was because of the music involved
Also like everyone else basiclly, i like the idea of having days of music with me at all times.. My Ipod (8gig) has everything to suite my taste at any given moment, and i don't have to search hi and low for that CD, just a few button pushes later and i'm listening.. But now i'm thinking.. wonder what Sarah Brightman's Gothica and Fleurs Du Mal (got to have Gothica for the build up into Fleurs Du Mal) would be like comparing it from the Audio CD to MP3 ...

I think there is a generation of kids who buy their music off the net who will never know what true sound quality is.
When I rip my cd's, if it is for my computer I rip to lossless, if it is for my car I rip to 320. There is a noticeable difference between 128 and 320.

I have a JVC deck with a rear input that feeds my PDA:
I also rip at 192. I used to do convert to Ogg-Vorb, which was 64, just to get more music on my PDA, but it was just to much trouble. Chris B |

like a 320 isn't THAT much.. Also since i have an Alpine Head unit, i use the `full speed' part of it to control my Ipod, Not the greatest, the last pioneer (lower-mid level,
4000? model) controlled it better through its USB port.. and you can control the Ipod Via the radio or the Ipod itself.. which i thought was pretty cool.. was
able to watch a few small video clips via the cars speakers

Hey Sean, how about one of these setups to play your songs on the Ipod???
Dice iTPA-220 I say it shouldn't be all THAT bad Saddly it's plastic.. be cool if the case was made from Cast Aluminum or something Seen it Avertised in `Excellence' (April 2008) and thought that it was pretty cool, and never thought they do a setup like that for an Ipod

I've got a panasonic deck that has the AUX cable running out of my dash to my ipod. Sadly nothing else is done to the stereo. I still have the stock JBL
factory system. On a side note, does anyone know the power that the stock Amp runs? I have an 12' alpine type R, that I doubt it could power.

so no.. powering a 12" sub, namely a type R is unlikely.. even thou i had the stock Sub Amp powering a 10" Boston acoustic (Rally series) way back when and it did okay.....
