Don't they weigh something like 50lbs each? Screw that, our cars are heavy enough.

exactly so why not? make it look good if it can't move fast. For the power most SC's have a heavier wheel isn't going to make that much of a
difference, and last time i checked you never raced yours stu...so what difference does it make to you?

The only reason to go with larger wheels when racing (been it road or Drag racing) is if you have large brakes that a smaller wheel can't fit over...
Since Larger diameter wheels HURT acceleration, HURT braking Handling can be just as good with a set of 15" rims then with a set of 18" rims.. Hence why road racers usually don't run 17 or larger rims.. Unless they need them to cover the brakes.. on our cars.. 18, 19, 20 or even 22 inch rims will over power the Stock brakes, the 20/22's would most likely over power even the typical 13" `cobra' brake kits (just dual piston calipers) never mind rears... I would love to have 18" rims, with 14" rotors in the front being clamped with 4 piston calipers, and 13" in the rear being clamped by 2 piston calipers but at last i rather use that $$ to redo the engine in my '91

I haven't raced mine because I'm buying a townhouse and spending even more money on my car than I have isn't too smart. My car isn't a
priority, having a place of my own is.
Even if I had the $, I wouldn't, every mod I've done except new leather and speakers have been to increase performance. Heavy wheels would do the opposite, so why pay for the opposite of what I want? ![]() "Victoria" The headgasket demon bit me in the ass... |

I mention it because there are much lighter wheels than that out there that also look good. If you're going to pay for wheels that look good, wouldn't
you want to go with ones that are lighter than heavier? Not everybody may know that wheels of a certain diameter weigh different amounts.

eg0rka; Trust me, you are over working them.. in normal day to day braking maybe not a huge amount, and if you do a Panic stop or RACE the car, you will
noticed the stopping distance will be increased..
Just think of it like this you have a bolt you want to undo, You start off with a normal 8-10" long ratchet.. it doesn't do the job, So you go get the 36" breaker bar and it loosens the bolt.. same concept with wheels (ratchet/breaker bar) VS brakes (bolt) with larger wheels youmoved the weight more further away from the hub.. just like when you use a breaker bar to loosen a bolt.. And onto Stews little weight issue.. The heavier the Rims are, does not Help Either.. A 25# 18" rim will make the car accelerate better and brake better then a 50# wheel.. (among handling) But for day to day, To show off you Bling.. BAH weight means nothing.. And even tho Jamie wasn't Selling said Rims.. I amited i wanted them, but i want the $$$ for the engine build up for my '91 (along with rear suspension and body work) Before i do Rims

I upgraded the brakes on my 94 with the 13" crossdrilled rotors on the front and 12s on the rear and I run 18's my wheels are only 2.5lbs heavier than
stock. The calipers are the better cobra/pbp calipers and the rear retained the usage of the stock ones. I notice a huge difference in stopping and brake feel.
the stock nrakes are weak even with stock wheels. I'm with stu about trying to keep the weight down, I do race my car and every pound counts ( I have to
compensate for driver weight) and 11s should be possible once I get the new engine in the car. I'll be running 16s on the rear and 16 or 17" skinnies
on the front depending on what is needed to clear the brakes.
