Need some help |

I got home from work and when I pulled up in front of my house, the check gauges light came on, revs dropped to about 300 and the oil pressure dropped to next
to nothing. Anybody know what the problem would be?

The check engine light will come on if oil pressure gauge is showing low, check the connection to the sensor, the sensor itself and verify that the oil level
is OK? If the oil level is ok and the sensor is working then maybe the oil pump has failed. you do not want to run it if this is the case. I'm not sure how
you can check oil presure without running the car but without oil you could cause major damage. The pump is 14 years old so it might have failed but it is not
a problem I have encountered before.

Heah Newf, hows it going? The car was running fine until you pulled into the driveway correct? If the rpms dropped to 300, your not gonna have much oil
pressure and it will trip the idiot light. I am not sure what car you are talking about, i remember you have a carbed 5.0 before. So no problems until you
pulled into the driveway? If so i doubt you were so lucky to have a pump failure when you were parking it, the odds are it would happen when you were driving
it. If this is an efi engine which i am assuming it is, it could be an electrical problem. If it is a 5.0 you can remove the distributor and use an oil pump
drive with a drill to turn the pump over and see if you have oil pressure but i am not sure if you have a supercharged 3.8. If oil pressure is there try to
start it up and see what happens, could just be a dirty maf. Always check the cheap simple things first, nine times out of ten thats all it is.

Yeah I bought a 94 SC from John about a month ago I think. Now when I went to work this morning the car overheated and died on the side of the road. John, the
oil and everything else are all good, I was visiting a friend last night, and he wanted to see under the hood, so while I was there I checked all the levels.
Anyways, back a little bit hear, after a $90 tow bill and being late for work, I figured i'd try and start the car, it started and now the engine is
knocking rediculously loud. So, I need a new engine, John, what do you have there... I need something now...

I am the owner of 3 SC engines that are not in cars. (why is at least a 3 beer story, believe me) Unfortunately I am a little far from you but if John
can't help you out then perhaps I can.

Damn. The one that is in the cougar is the one I bought from you. Runs well, Unfortunately it is still in the Cougar and I wouldn't be able to pull it
until next week. I have the original one that was in the Cougar (That also ran but has been out of the car for a while. It came out of the car as I thought it
was blown but it was just that the motor mounts disintegrated and dropped the engine onto the cross member. you can look here to see the story. Had I
recognized the motor mount issue it would still have been in the Cougar.
http://supercoupeclubofwesterncanada.yuku.com/topic/515?page=2 I guess the upshot of all this is the engine that I have on a stand in the garage is immediately available at $100.00. The one that is in the Cougar is not available until after next weekend.

The engine that's on the stand has 220,000. The engine that's in the Cougar I got from John. He thought it had about 190,000 and I put about 15,000 on
it. The third one I haven't seen yet (it came with my T'bird). If you have any question you can give me a call. You can get me at 604-940-5665 (My work
number which is forwarded to my cell).

sorry guys I was without internet for a couple days or I would have picked up that engine from you. Jayson I thought you were going to rebuild one? I still
have a 90 that just needs headgaskets done. Just make sure you swap over the new timing cover to what ever engine you decide to go with. I think I know what
happened to the engine too.

Have you heard yet what the suspected cause of the engine failure is?

Well people have given me suggestions but nothing definate right now. Do you have a number I can get ahold of you and discuss some prices for an engine rebuild
or the idea of the 5.0 conversion...
