You are correct..
But to take Full advantage of the larger MAF sensor, have a Chip Burnt, or the EEC reflashed to work with it would be the better option.. Since the power
gain that most aftermarket MAF Sensoris from leaning out your car, not the `added air flow', by so it's telling the EEC that the engine is getting LESS
air then it's truely is.. Also since the EEC uses the MAF sensor (along with Throttle position and RPM) to Calculate the load the engine has on it, it
will also Effect how the automatic transmission works too..
Should one run out and get a custom Made Chip for just the MAF sensor, No.. But if you do a `cold air' intake, MAF, T-body, Also Exhuast and a J-mod.. One may want to think of it...
