Four years of leaking coolant is finally getting to me. Does anybody know of you can get the t/cover off without removing the p/s pump? I see that the p/s pump is attached to the block with two studs, that might also attach the timing cover or water pump. Book time on the water pump is 2.0 hours, and the timing cover takes it up to 5.9 hours, and the p/s is +.2 hours. I'd rather not have to remove the IC tube(s) if possible, and I remember back when I did the head gaskets, I had a biatch of a time getting the p/s pump off. Chris B

Posts: 1189 (10/15/1903 12:10 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	YOU WILL NEED TO REMOVE THE BRACKET THAT GOES TO THE POWERSTEERING PUMP SO YES IT WILL HAVE TO COME OUT. bUT YOU ONLY NEED TO REMOVE THE UPPER TUBE TO DO SO AND THEN REMOVE THE POWERSTEERING PULLEY AND YOU CAN GET AT THE TIMING COVER. THERE ARE NUTS ON BOTH SIDES OF THAT BRACKET. JOHN

Heh weirdly i Have EVERYTHING in the trunk of my '89 to do the Timing chain cover gasket, even a near New OE timing chain cover and oil pump.. (the later i'm kinda scared of) I just need to get my ass moving aswell and do it.. along with making up a new T-stat housing or something.. since even it leaking is starting to piss me off (3-4 times i've tried to seal it, and it still leaks.. even left it for like 18 hours to Dry before putting antifreeze back in) Too many cars.. too little time to go around and fix all the little things that are on them all.. Posts: 33 (05/09/2008 10:06 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Don't have to remove the P/S bracket (aluminum) but the steel support bracket does need to be removed from the front of the pump,removing the P/S pulley is req. to do this.You will also req a bolt puller for the harmonic ballancer;please remember to use care when you re-install the harmonic as the crank pic-up is easly broken if youre not carefull.I recomend to use a harmonic install tool as well (not a hammer and block of wood). Ford tech available for repairs with T-birds Grant 778 228 7399

Posts: 2465 (05/22/2008 09:13 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	It's not all that bad too do.. for the upper IC tube.. just undo it at the SC top (the 4 bolts) and to reseal get some of the Teflon paste for at the IC silicone at the top.. so far is work fine and dandy on my '89.... you may even be able to get the PS pulley off without removing the IC tube.... If i remember?? Still planing this myself.. but i always get new projects that push other projects behind.. that and i just give up easily "Turning seems to be a lost form."
