I'm going to pick up
3 - 30 amp relays (low, high, and fog).
3 - breakers, one for each. What I can't seem to find out is what amperage the breakers should be. In addition should I fuse link the Power sources to the circuit breakers?

I'm thinking I'm going to rewire my headlights this weekend (in addition to tracking down my fan problem).

I personally just used 15amp fuses on my cars..
With the '96 and '89 i just went from the battery terminal, to a fuse to the relay.. Since the relays are right there next to the battery on the '91 went from the Battery to a AGU fuse (50 amp?) to another fuse block that then went to the relays.. You did see that setup up right?? I remember taking my '91 to your place once for some reason?? Also i would surgest going to the wrecker, unless you have a pair, of 9006 and 9005 bulbs that are no good.. But trying to explain `They were already broken' to them may not work to well Also if you can find some Dual 87 relays.. i would DIFFERENTLY suggest going that route..

Not sure what you mean by dual 87 relays? Do you mean SPDT? (87 & 87a terminals). I like the plug and play idea, so I will be stopping by a wreckers. If I
run a 50 amp fuse is it big enough to run both high and low at the same time?

Terminal 30 on a relay is Common
Terminal 87A is Closed Terminal 87 is Open There are relays out there that have two 87 terminals (SPST?) So one terminal can go to the right headlight, the other to the left.. to me, it just makes for a semi cleaner, more professional, Way of doing it when you have to power two items under one relay.. 50amps good for 720 watts of power.. and being that both low beams and Highbeams are under 10amps each (for Pair of Filaments IE both lows) 50 amp should more or less be over kill.. and are you gonna be trying to wire it so the lows stay on when the highs are on?? (SPDT comes in handy there, depending how you want to hook it up) The BEST route would be to fuse each Filament separately (IE 6 fuses all together) kinda like BMW and a few other cars least if you have a short on one side, you can still have light coming from the other side instead of, well no light..

I understand. Definitely two 87 terminals would be cleaner than the splice I was going to do.
I would like to run both High and lows at the same time when the highs are switched just have to work out the wiring. Can I run the fuses on the load side of the relays? Or is that an electrical no-no? If I can then a six fuse arrangement would be sweet.

So what i'll do is run SPST for the low beams and a DPST for the high beams with the lows run through one pole and the highs through the other. Now if I
can fuse after the relay (safely) then i'll run a nice six fuse, fuse block and fuse each filament.
I'll add in a 50 amp fuse before the whole mess in case of a crazy meltdown and everything will be sweet. I hope that makes sense.

4 Relays total would be needed, You can either get Pigtails or my perfered method the Plug housing and Terminals (i know a few electronic stores have them,
both ways)
I wish i knew how to Mspaint well enough to draw up something.. YES you can do it basiclly how i have had it in my '91 (even thou i just used a single fuse for each pair of filament) HECK if you can find one of them there Relay holding devices... Imagine how clean it would look.. Also KMS tools (Car parts section?) had 6 gang Hella fuse blocks awhile ago (a decent size box of them) ??? and i woudl use a switching Relay for turning on the lows with highs, Headlight switch to 87a Power source (low beam?) to 87 and send 30 to the low beam relays 86 85 would go to ground 86 to high beam (Before or after the relay) OR you can forget that way.. and just 30 to power, and 87 to Low beam relays 86

I'll see about drawing of something, taking a photo and `uploading' it.. :S
I still have to make up a Schematic for this 1.8T car i just got running today.. (Heh still gotta figure out about a CEL and well OBD connector But it ran.. and a turbo just spining with no plumping doesn't sound THAT bad

Good news is I've got a meeting at a customers in PoCo tomorrow at 11:00 so I will stop by KMS Tools and hope they still have the fuse holders. I'm
thinking it should come together really nicely especially if I can find a DPST relay.

The fuse blocks that i seen at KMS looked like these ones
and i'm shure they don't have something like this thou..
